Whether and to what extent the different spellings of the signatures, as they appear on the signatures of our two Catholnigg grand pianos, could provide clues for chronological dating is not yet researched, but seems plausible, as such nameplates, just like the different decorative frames surrounding them, were typically sourced externally. They certainly did not represent unique pieces but were procured in larger quantities from suppliers and "processed" according to the volume of orders and re-ordered as needed. The observable differences may arise from changes in suppliers, variations in contemporary taste, or company chronology.

This instrument is intended to remain as a reference in its original unrestored condition.
