Bernard Smith 1694-97 (case by Sir Christopher Wren)

The contract dated 19th of December 1694 noted the organ builder Bernard Smith, the sum of 2000 pounds and the number of 27 stops on 3 manuals (without a pedal). About 1721 a pedal keyboard was attached.

In 1872 Henry Willis built a new organ including about 200 pipes of the old orgn which still exist, the case was altered but used again. More renovations and additions by Willis followed in 1897-1900 and 1930; the next new organ by Noel Mander Ltd followed 1972-77, integrating the extant pipes of Smith and Willis; further renovation in 1992.
